Whether you're a toddler or a business executive, few occasions are as memorable as a good surprise. From birthday parties to baby announcements, surprises are a great way to bring people together.
As a leader within your organization, you can use surprises to create excitement and unity within your team. Here are 4 great (inexpensive) examples that you can try this week:
1. THE MORNING COFFEE SURPRISE
Become a legal drug-pusher - surprise your team with free mid-morning coffee and donuts. The break will do them wonders - it'll get people talking to each other, give them a mental break and energy burst, plus it'll help everyone be more productive in the period before lunch.
2. THE SHORTER DAY SURPRISE
Few things compare to getting off work 30-60min early. You beat the traffic and get an extra bunch of time to whatever you want! Pick a day this week to give your team a break and get them of work early.
3. THE APPRECIATION SURPRISE
Have you ever worked your tail off behind the scenes and received little appreciation for your efforts? The reality is that there might be a number of individuals in your team who have those same feelings. Treat one or more members of your team with a $20 card to a local coffee shop or an online store. Make sure you attach a note letting them know how much you appreciate their hard work.
4. THE LUNCH SURPRISE
This last one is basically the morning coffee surprise on steroids. Pick one day this week to order in a few pizzas and salad for your entire team. You'll be surprised at the awesome stories and connection that arise out of a single meal together.
